Join us online from January 21st - 28th as the International Campaign to Stop Rape & Gender Violence in Conflict travels to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - taking our messages about stopping rape and gender violence in conflict to the 20th Summit of the African Union (AU). The Campaign is sponsoring activists from Sudan, Kenya, and the Democratic Republic of Congo who will join us in Addis for trainings and advocacy meetings during the AU Summit.
State security forces and armed groups in Africa employ sexual violence as a strategic weapon used to destroy people and communities.
We will be spotlighting women’s voices from Sudan, Kenya, and the Democratic Republic of Congo as they call for leadership to stop rape to the African Union Summit, as well as call on policymakers and the international community for immediate and effective responses to assist survivors.
On January 26th we will also hold a high-level event with Litha Musyimi-Ogana, Directorate of Women, Gender and Development of the AU; Zainab Hawa Bangura, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations & Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict; Leymah Gbowee, Co-Chair of the International Campaign to Stop Rape & Gender Violence in Conflict; Marie Louise Baricako, Executive Director of Femmes Africa Solidarité; Zaynab El Salawi, Coordinator of Sudanese Women Empowerment for Peace; Pauline Kamau, Executive Director of the Green Belt Movement; Julienne Lusenge, Solidarité Féminine Pour la Paix et le Développement Intégral. Bafana Khumalo, Senior Programmes Specialist at Sonke Gender Justice will moderate.
