Tell World Leaders to Take Action at the Global Summit!

From June 10 – 13, world leaders, civil society and sexual violence survivors will gather in London, UK for the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict: the largest-ever global meeting on this issue. Help ensure world leaders make the most of this opportunity to turn international commitments into concrete, coordinated action!

All of the countries invited to the Global Summit have signed the Declaration of Commitment to End Sexual Violence in Conflict. So far, over two thirds of all United Nations members have endorsed the Declaration.

Join our call for more countries to endorse the declaration and for all UN member states to send senior government representatives to the Summit to make concrete commitments to end sexual violence in conflict!

Subject: ATTN [ Your Foreign Minister's Name] - Take Leadership at the Global Summit

Dear [ Foreign Minister's Name],

As a member of the International Campaign to Stop Rape & Gender Violence in Conflict, I write to urge you to take action to stop rape in conflict. From June 10-13, world leaders, civil society and sexual violence survivors will gather in London, UK for the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict. This event offers an important opportunity for leaders to coordinate concrete action to stop rape in conflict, and I want you to make the most of it!

We count on your participation and voice in the Summit to send a clear and powerful message to take action in support of women. I urge you to attend the Summit and support our calls for world leaders to:

  1. Commit to having policies in place by the time of the 2015 UN Security Council High-Level Review of UNSCR 1325, to ensure women’s participation and independent civil society representation in 100% of peace processes and negotiations.
  2. Commit sustained resources for the full range of medical, psychosocial, legal and livelihood services for survivors, and increase funding to local women’s organizations providing survivors with these services.
  3. Commit to the development and enforcement of robust national laws to hold perpetrators accountable for sexual violence, with particular focus on training law enforcement officials in investigation and supporting prosecutors to pursue these cases in court.

Along with over 5,000 Campaign members around the world, I look forward to following your work at the Summit and efforts to support women worldwide.

Sincerely,

[Your name]
