Campaign releases new report on Sudan

The Campaign launched its newest report in December, Survivors Speak Out: Sexual Violence in Sudan. Hosted at the residence of the Dutch Ambassador in Canada, the event brought together Canadian and international policymakers to discuss the growing crisis for women in Sudan.

Speakers included, Liz Bernstein, Executive Director of Nobel Women's Initiative and Alex Neve, Secretary-General of Amnesty International Canada, as well as the Ambassador himself. Speakers shared on the findings of the report, the recommendations for the international community on how best to respond and support the grassroots women activists.

The report highlights the crisis of sexual and gender-based violence in Sudan and the courageous actions being taken by grassroots activists in country. Neve, who recently returned from the region, told of one woman he met in a refugee camp in the region who expressed it this way; “It is as we expect. There is nowhere that is safe to be a woman.”
