On Thursday, May 10, the Salmmah Women's Resource Centre and SuWEP marked the official launch of the International Campaign to Stop Rape & Gender Violence in Conflict in Khartoum, Sudan.
The local groups - both on the Advisory Committee - organized a forum for young journalists and media professionals to raise awareness about rape. The goal of the meeting was to engage media outlets and encourage them to publish more information about gender violence.
Salmmah Women's Resource Centre was initiated by women leaders as a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting women's issues, in particular raising awareness and ending violence against women. It often leads workshops for youth and media to raise awareness on gender violence. SuWEP is an organization that brings women from the North and South of the country together for peace. The group develops the capacity of women on the ground to promote and build development and lasting peace.
