Global youth: India must tackle sexual violence in conflict

(Youth to End Sexual Violence in Conflict's Youth Ambassador for India, Meera Vijayann.)

Today, Campaign member Youth to End Sexual Violence joined the call for India to make concrete commitments to stop rape in conflict internationally and end gender-based violence in India.

The global network of youth working to end rape & gender violence in conflict sent a letter to Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, calling for India's endorsement of the G8-backed Declaration of Commitment to End Sexual Violence in Conflict. The network also called for concrete action to prevent, prosecute and protect communities from sexual violence in conflict.

The letter is the first official statement from Youth to End Sexual Violence in Conflict's new Youth Ambassador for India, Meera Vijayann.

Campaign co-chairs, Nobel peace laureates Jody Williams and Shirin Ebadi echo this call for action and will be in Delhi, India on Monday to participate in a conversation on how women are mobilizing to end violence against women in India and internationally. This event will be co-hosted by the Campaign and international human rights organization, Breakthrough
